A consequence of being as natural as I can, the raw materials of the ecoYoga mats can be wild and unpredictable. Manufacture specifications for the material is strict and quality control requires an intense level of discretion. If there is any doubt during the process, mats are quarantined and collated for my personal inspection.

For me these are the mats that have escaped monotony and epitomise how i run ecoYoga. There is no word in English to express how i relate to these mats. This Japanese term i borrow with utmost uttermost respect. 15 years ago i used the term "factory second" but these mats are so much more than that.
The beauty and acceptance of imperfection and of the transient state . This is wabi-sabi : a philosophy in which to live with the world.
Wabi relates to simplicity: a movement toward having less and to living with nature.
Sabi is about transience and the authenticity of age; embracing imperfections.
Wabi-sabi welcomes the unexpected and reorders priorities, pays attention to and honours the small wonders that surround us.
In standard factory productions, material that lacks continuity is most often discarded. In this lack of continuity i see beauty, a practice which ultimately defines all the ecoYoga mats to some degree (with practical & aesthetic discretion of course=)
The factory have been bewildered by the energy and time i give sorting through material but i do believe they are starting to see my way: that it makes no sense to unnecessarily waste anything.. .. .. Ever
Characteristics may be : a loop or glitch in the hessian, a slight discolouration, slightly under spec in weight, excessive bloom, a few too many patches of exposed jute ... or perhaps a slightly squint or rough cut or a squished edge. Every mat will differ from the other.
When possible i will fix issues but will still sell as factory second. You may not notice anything awry or indeed very much like something with character.

2mm A great introduction to ecoYoga mats and ideal if you travel mat with your mat. A solid grounding (& ecoYoga favourite=)
4mm The most common mat for practice. Provides enough support and cushion whilst maintaining a firmness for good practice..
6mm More cushion, more squish, than 4mm but still firm and stable underfoot.
